World RTI Day

With parallel to World Right to Know Day which scheduled to held on 28th September 2018, Right to Information unit of the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media has

planned to declare RIGHT TO KNOW WEEK and some activities to empower citizens regarding RTI.

Conduction of debating and essay competition for school children in all islands and calling of research abstracts related to RTI from universities are two activities which planned.

Accordingly, a meeting was conducted on 26th June 2018, with the presence of all provincial educational directors and assistant directors. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. J.M. ThilakaJayasundara, Additional Secretary (Development and Planning), Ministry of Finance and Mass Media. Mr. J.M.R.Devid, Senior Lecturer of University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, Mr. WijayanadaRupasinghe, senior lecturer of University of Kelaniya, Mr. Jagath Liyanarachchi, director of the National Media center and Ms. SudharmaKarunarathna, Assistant secretary of the RTI Unit of Ministry of Mass Media was participated.

Decisions taken as follows.

  1. To conduct debates in provincial wisely. and to select winners for the national level competitions. Final two schools will get the opportunity to present their skills at the international event which plan to held on 28th September 2018. Debates will conduct in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums.
  2. To conduct essay competitions in zonal levels and to conduct final competitions at provincial level and to select winners. The competition will open for both junior and senior category school children.
  3. To call for abstracts from all universities to publish a proceeding and to select best research abstracts to present in the final day event.
