Public Officers should immediately provide required information in seek of benefits

Ministry of Finance and Mass Media has organized an RTI Mobile Service on 24th September at the Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna with the participation of the beneficiaries of the Right to Information Act and attending this programme as the Chief Guest, Mrs. Thilaka Jayasundara, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media stated that citizens are the real heirs of the Right to Information Act and therefore, the public officers should provide requested information without delay in seek of true benefits of the Act.

Over 700 persons representing youth as well as elders residing in the districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya and Mulathivu have attended this Mobile Service.

Mrs. Thilaka Jayasundara further stated that the conciliation government came to power on 08th January, 2015 under the leadership of the President and the Prime Minister has introduced the Right to Information Act in securing public rights, ensuring democracy and thereby establishing a fair, equal and a society reigned by justice.

This RTI Mobile Service has been financially sponsored by the AFRIEL Youth Network while Mr. Jagath Liyanarachchi, Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Nalaka Gunawardhana and the Senior Lecturer Dr. Pradeep Weerasinghe participated as resource persons. Mr. Vedanayagam, District Secretary, Jaffna, Deputy Secretary to the Northern Provincial Council, Divisional Secretaries, Mr. Ravindra de Silva, Executive Director of the AFRIEL Youth Network, Mr. K. P. Jayantha, Director (Media), Sudharma Karunarathna, Assistant Secretary to the Ministry, representatives of Universities and school students were present at the event.
